Nintendo Switch owners can finally celebrate the long-awaited release of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition, now available for purchase through the official Bethesda store and major retailers at approximately $60 USD. This special edition includes the base game along with Dawnguard, Dragonborn, "hundreds of unique Creation Club items that introduce new quests, weapons, armor, spells, and dungeons.

Existing Skyrim players have the option to upgrade to the Switch 2 version for $20 USD, while owners of the original Switch edition will be able to upgrade at no additional cost. The Anniversary Edition also brings console-specific enhancements such as DLSS anti-aliasing, faster load times, and support for mouse and motion controls, plus Amiibo compatibility. Unique in-game additions feature The Legend of Zelda-inspired gear like a Master Sword, Hylian Shield, and the Champion’s Tunic.

A preview image from the The Elder Scrolls 6 teaser trailer showcases a stunning landscape, hinting at potential future developments. However, the announcement has sparked controversy among longtime fans due to the decision to release the game without a physical disc—just a code-in-box format—which many view as a cash grab rather than a traditional product. Additionally, excitement around The Elder Scrolls 6 remains muted, with Bethesda’s leadership having previously teased elements that may not materialize for years.

While the Switch 2 edition will appeal to many fans, it does little to satisfy those eagerly awaiting news about the next mainline installment. Overall, the release offers both innovation and nostalgia, though its divisive delivery method continues to divide opinion within the community.
