Netflix's upcoming video game adaptation of finally receives a promising update, and the streamer is giving its full support.
Netflix is actively developing its live-action Gears of War movie, confirming that the long-awaited video game adaptation is still moving forward. The project is being positioned as a major, big-budget production, reflecting the scale and intensity of the source material.
The film is expected to follow Marcus Fenix, a soldier, and his fellow members of Delta Squad as they take on , a race of genetically altered people that threatens humanity. Like the games, the Gears of War movie's story will focus on warfare, the bonds between soldiers, and the epic fight to save what remains of civilization.
A Gears of War screen adaptation is one that fans have been waiting for years. And, in an interview with , the film's director, David Leitch, revealed that Netflix is equally excited about the project. Leitch said that the Gears of War adaptation is on the right track. He explained that while the script has not been completed yet, they are making great progress. Additionally, he revealed that Netflix is fully committed to moving the project forward.
The video game that inspired the film is a third-person shooter released in 2006, developed by Epic Games and published by Microsoft Game Studios. In addition to its story mode, Gears of War includes multiplayer options where up to eight players can compete online, choosing sides between opposing groups across several match types. The gameplay is built around tactical movement, with a strong focus on using cover and coordinated gunfire to gain the upper hand in battles.
