A and G.I. Joe movie crossover seems more likely after a recent update for both franchises. Transformers has been a successful film franchise since 2007. Based on the Hasbro toy line, the films center on a crew of transforming alien robots who have brought their war to Earth. The first film, , was a hit, grossing $706.7 million worldwide.

The five Michael Bay-directed films in the series were mostly box office successes, with Dark of the Moon and Age of Extinction both crossing $1 billion. After Bay's last film, The Last Knight, the franchise reinvented itself with Bumblebee. While it wasn't as big of a hit at the box office, it was and still is the best-performing Transformers film with critics, holding a 91% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes. The franchise later released Rise of the Beasts in 2026, and .

Meanwhile, the G.I. Joe franchise has had more mixed success than Transformers. The first film, The Rise of Cobra, grossed over $302.5 million worldwide on a $175 million budget, and its sequel, Retaliation, grossed over $375.7 million on a $130 million budget. , earned around $40 million worldwide on an $88 million budget.

Both franchises are trying to find their footing after their last films. Snake Eyes was a box office disappointment, and Transformers One also underperformed, despite positive reviews. Since both franchises are based on Hasbro toys and are made by Paramount, a crossover film is entirely possible, and its chances of happening are more promising after a recent announcement regarding both of the franchises' futures.

During Paramount's presentation, the studio shared a few announcements regarding their biggest franchises, and revealed that a new Transformers movie and a new G.I. Joe movie are in development, according to .

It's unknown what these projects are, but there are some possibilities. Bay is reportedly working on a new film in the franchise, but details are still unknown about that film. It could also be or Transformers One. While One wasn't a box office hit, it was well-received and left the door open for a potential sequel.

It's also unclear about what the new G.I. Joe movie could be. According to , two films were in development from Danny McBride and Max Landis. However, recently reported that "Paramount Pictures and Hasbro are not moving forward" with Landis' project. After Snake Eyes' disappointing box office results, the next G.I. Joe film could be a full reboot.

Rise of the Beasts ended with an exciting tease. After defeating Scourge and stopping Unicron from destroying the Earth, Anthony Ramos' character is invited to join the G.I. Joe, teasing what could be . However, since this tease happened nearly three years ago, the status of this project is still unclear. In a recent interview with , Rise of the Beasts' director Steven Caple Jr. said he has "big plans" for it, and says "it's still in development."

"I do. I still do have big plans for what that could be, but we'll have to see. We'll have to see what comes about it. I am not part of the next Transformers film, but it's still in development and there's still time, so you just never know. Yeah."

Based on Caple's comments, it doesn't appear as though the next film for either franchise will be the crossover movie. However, his comments also suggest that the project is still in development. If the next Transformers and G.I. Joe films are successful, then it's possible Paramount will move forward with their crossover film.
