Filmed in Germany, Dear Child offers a dark, twist-filled mystery that flips the crime genre on its head by beginning with the escape of a victim. The story begins when a woman named Lena Beck (Jeanne Goursaud) escapes from a remote cabin in the woods with a smart young girl named Hannah (Naila Schuberth), one of her two daughters. Lena is hit by a car while fleeing and goes to the hospital, where her parents, who believe she went missing 13 years prior, wait to identify her, which brings the first major twist.
Dear Child tells a complex story that connects a current police investigation after Lena's hit-and-run incident with a cold case from years before. Without getting into spoiler territory, the series focuses intensely on what happened to Lena and Hannah and the psychological elements they endured throughout their situation.
