was one of the most iconic, yet criminally underrated anime of the 2000s, and that makes it all the harder that it ended the way it did. After three years of a mostly good adaptation, the anime abruptly ended in 2006 by not only skipping the final arc, the Clear Note arc, but also by completely rewriting the Faudo arc into a less emotional and all-around inferior story, and all of that being paired with Zatch Bell! becoming lost media in America due to a lawsuit involving publishing rights made the whole thing sting even worse.
The way things played out with Zatch Bell! is nothing but unfortunate, and for 20 years now, fans have wanted nothing more than for the anime to get a full-fledged reboot more faithful to the manga, especially in light of the success of the manga’s recent sequel, Zatch Bell! 2. All of that, of course, has been nothing but hopeful wishing on the part of the fans, but all of a sudden, it might be more likely than fans think.
Why A Zatch Bell! Remake Might Be Closer Than We Think
2026 marks the 25th anniversary of the Zatch Bell! manga, and . That includes acrylic stands of some of the characters, and as seen above, not only do they have anime-style artwork that’s different from the original anime, but they also make clear references to the manga with things like Barry having his scars from the manga version of the Faudo arc, Gorm from the Clear Note arc being included, and Zatch having green clothes instead of his blue clothes from the anime.
Something else worth noting is something that happened with Birgdin Board, the publishing company of series creator Makoto Raiku. Their website used to offer companies the option to inquire about adapting one of Raiku’s stories for anime, but that option was recently removed. It’s unclear why that happened, but it would make sense if it was because they finally secured a new anime, and with the manga-accurate, anime-style designs of those acrylic stands, it seems like is all but confirmed.
Why Zatch Bell! Needs A Great Remake More Than Any Other Anime
A Zatch Bell! remake is more likely than ever, and it’s absolutely something fans old and new should get to see. As previously discussed, because of the original anime’s sudden cancellation, not only was the Faudo arc completely robbed of its emotional depth and great fights, but the Clear Note arc was also never adapted, despite how perfectly it closed out the story as one of the . There’s so much good material in Zatch Bell! that was never adapted, and a remake would more than do that justice.
More than that, of course, are all the problems that existed with . As fun as the anime was, the animation was highly inconsistent, it was filled with filler episodes and padding, and it generally felt far too immature with how much it upped the comedy and forced Zatch into scenes and stories he wasn’t supposed to be in. The series was heavily flawed even before its final season, but a remake would do a lot to fix those problems.

With its great balance of action, comedy, and heart, Zatch Bell! is a manga unlike any other that still holds up tremendously well after 25 years, and it deserves an anime reboot that can properly showcase its strengths. At long last, that reboot seems closer than ever if the upcoming merchandise is to be believed, and if that is the case, then hopefully, it will be everything Zatch Bell! fans have been waiting decades to see.
