New Treasure Island Series Coming to MGM+ with Star-Studded Cast

One of the stars of Apple TV's just revealed a major update about his new pirate TV show.

is developing a new six-episode TV show based on Robert Louis Stevenson's classic pirate novel Treasure Island, and filming just ended, according to a new video with the cast.

The update, shared by MGM+ on Instagram, starts with Oyelowo looking into the camera and saying, "And that's a wrap!" Hayley Atwell, Jack Huston and other members of the cast and crew get involved and make the same declaration to the camera. Check out the video below:

The video also gives a brief behind-the-scenes look at some of the characters' costumes and the sets, including the pirate ship that will be featured on Treasure Island.

While a premiere date hasn't been announced yet, MGM+'s post teases that the series is "coming soon" to the streaming service.

In early March, MGM+ announced that it was greenlighting a new adaptation of Treasure Island with stars Oyelowo, Hayley Atwell, Jack Huston, Tomer Capone and Tom Sweet. Production also got underway in early March.

Oyelowo is playing the infamous one-legged pirate Long John Silver, whose charismatic and physical stamina allows him to get away with despicable behavior.

Before being cast on Treasure Island, the actor starred as Holston Becker in the first season of Apple TV's Silo, which is about to premiere its third season in July. include Rise of the Planet of the Apes, The Help, Lincoln, The Butler, Interstellar, Selma and Lawmen: Bass Reeves.

Meanwhile, Atwell is set to play Jim Hawkins' mother Bess Hawkins, Huston is stepping into the role of Aaron Graham, Capone is playing Billy Bones, and Sweet has been cast as Jim Hawkins.

Sebastian Cardwell, Paul Testar, Michael Wright, Alec Strum, David Stern, Scott Huff, Colin Callender, Daniel Gratton, Robert Murphy, Mark Hedges and Jeremy Lovering are producing the series, with Lovering, William McGregor and Paul Walker serving as directors.

The novel Treasure Island, originally published in 1883, tells the story of a boy named Jim Hawkins who sets out on a grand adventure after discovering a treasure map, but Long John Silver has other plans and attempts to thwart Jim's goal of finding the treasure.

Stevenson's book has been adapted for the screen numerous times over the years, including Disney's 1950 film Treasure Island, , TNT's 1990 TV film and Sky1's Treasure Island series in 2012.

Now MGM+ is developing its own version of Treasure Island with Oyelowo, Atwell and Huston. More details are expected to be revealed in the coming months, including a premiere date and trailer.

Silo season 3 premieres Friday, July 3 on Apple TV.
