A Ted Lasso replacement series starring is swinging onto Netflix.
After the success of Ted Lasso, which became Apple TV's most-watched show of all time until it was dethroned by Severance, other sports comedy series have followed. This includes , Apple TV's Stick, and Hulu's Chad Powers, with Owen Wilson, Kate Hudson, and Glen Powell bringing their star power to each of these respective shows.
Now, Netflix has announced that Ferrell's sports comedy series The Hawk is coming to the streaming service on July 16. The comedic star plays Lonnie "The Hawk" Hawkins, who was the world's number one golfer in 2004, and who is now trying to make a comeback, as he only needs one more major win to officially achieve a Grand Slam. Ferrell also created the show and is an executive producer. Check out the trailer below:
Other members of The Hawk cast include Luke Wilson as Lonnie's longtime rival Golden Fisk, as Lonnie's estranged wife Stacy, Jimmy Tatro as Lonnie's son and professional golfer Lance, Katelyn Tarver as Lance's social media influencer fiancée Natalie, Fortune Feimster as new caddie Sam, Chris Parnell as PGA board member Anton, and David Hornsby as Stacy's new romantic partner Radford. See first images of them below:
The Hawk is a reunion for Ferrell and Shannon, who previously worked together on Saturday Night Live, A Night at the Roxbury, Superstar, and Talladega Night: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. While they don't have quite as much history together, it's also a reunion for Ferrell and Wilson, who were both in Old School and Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.
The PGA Tour is a partner on the series, which, along with Ferrell, is executive produced by Jessica Elbaum and Alix Taylor for Gloria Sanchez Productions, Rian Johnson, Ram Bergman, and Nena Rodrigue for T-Street, and Chris Henchy, Harper Steele, David Gordon Green, and Andrew Guest.
With the confirmed July 16 release date, The Hawk will be coming out before Ted Lasso season 4 debuts on August 5. While comparisons to the Jason Sudeikis series are inevitable given its success, Ferrell's show appears to have more in common with Apple TV's Stick, which sees the long-retired professional golfer Pryce "Stick" Cahill (Wilson) turning his life around by mentoring the talented younger athlete Santi Wheeler (Peter Dager). but does not have a release date yet.
The Hawk will make its Netflix debut on July 16.
