Warning! Spoilers ahead for Marshals episode 7, "Family Business."
is officially replacing Monica Dutton, and she's very different from Kelsey Asbille's late character. Luke Grimes returned as Kayce Dutton a little over a year after on Paramount Network via the sequel spinoff. By the time the show commenced, John III's youngest had a very busy time off-screen, marked by the untimely death of Monica and eventual connection with the U.S. Marshals. As he continues to move on, he is bound to encounter new friends and foes, and even a fresh romantic partner.
Despite being CBS's most-watched new show of the , Marshals is still in its early stages of establishing its own identity. It's currently toeing the delicate line between forging its new path and honoring what came before it. This is reflected in Kayce's personal storyline in the series, as he has struggled to let go of the past and fully embrace his new path. That said, "Family Business" helps him embrace the future.
Kayce Has His Very First Romance With Dolly After Monica's Death
Marshals episode 6, "Out of the Shadows" marked the first-year death anniversary of . Tate and Kayce honored her legacy with a memorial service, although Grimes' character was initially hesitant to attend — a clear sign that he didn't want to move forward from the grieving period just yet. A series of events, however, convinced him that it was time to let go, symbolized by him parting ways with his late wife's necklace. Marshals episode 7 doesn't waste time ushering Kayce into his new life, as the outing reunites him with Dolly Weaver, the daughter of the wealthy rancher, Tom Weaver, that the team saved back in episode 4.

It's clear that Dolly has her eyes set on Kayce, but getting to know each other is interrupted when the older Weaver starts talking business, offering to buy East Camp. Understandably, this turns off the most business-averse Dutton kid. Marshals rekindles their budding romance at the end of an hour when Dolly stops by to check if Kayce is open to hanging out again, and surprisingly, he rides off with her. This is obviously a significant development in his love life, but what makes this more interesting is the conversation he previously had with Andrea about feeling guilty for finding a new partner.
The discussion offers an important look at how he truly perceives Dolly. While this doesn't mean that they will eventually be endgame in Marshals, it confirms that Kayce is attracted to her and is actually considering a proper relationship, hence why he's torn in the first place. Andrea's advice helped him be more open to the possibility of finding new love, but since he was already contemplating it, this development felt like this was an inevitability.
What Kayce & Dolly's Potential Relationship Means For Marshals
Beth and Rip's romance in Yellowstone tends to always get the most attention, but Kayce and Monica's love story was more stable and enduring. John III's son defied all odds to be with Tate's mother, so it's obviously very difficult for him to lose her. That said, it would be dense to assume that Marshals will keep Kayce single throughout its run. He is bound to have a romantic partner, and for now, it seems like Dolly is it. What's interesting is that she could not be more different than Monica, and perhaps someone that John III would have immediately approved for his son, and yet, Kayce is drawn to her.
As previously mentioned, it's difficult to say if they'll be endgame, but considering how their budding dynamic is tied to a bigger storyline, which is Tom's attempt at buying East Camp, it's safe to say that their story will be a relatively longer arc. While Andrea is supportive, it's curious what Tate and other people in Monica's life would think about Kayce's new romance, assuming that he decides to be open about it. The fact that the Weavers may not be so trustworthy further increases the stakes in this Marshals narrative.
