For dedicated fans of the Mortal Kombat franchise, certain characters outshine the rest. One of the iconic characters who has become a favorite among gamers is Liu Kang. Being part of the original hero lineup, the martial arts champion has remained central to the games for decades, appearing through endless storylines, reboots, and adaptations. And, as a result, audiences have strong opinions about how the character should be portrayed on screen, especially with the upcoming .
The actor who plays Kang in the onscreen adaptation, Ludi Lin, has been praised for his take on the character. However, despite the role that he plays and the popularity of Kang, he is surprisingly not the actor's favorite video game character.In an interview with , Lin said that he actually enjoys playing as Sub-Zero more than Kang, a warrior from the Lin Kuei clan. "I’ve played both Liu Kang and Sub-Zero in the games. To be honest, I prefer Sub-Zero," he explained.

The actor said that one of his favorite things about franchises with large followings is to watch the fans' reactions to the films, especially the gaming community. After his brother’s downfall, Kuai Liang became Sub-Zero instead and became the franchise’s primary version of the character for decades.
