A judge has dismissed most of Blake Lively’s sexual harassment lawsuit against Justin Baldoni, significantly reducing the case that emerged after .
On December 31, 2026, Lively filed a lawsuit alleging that her on the set of the film. She accused him of creating a hostile work environment and making her feel uncomfortable during production by improvising kissing scenes and making inappropriate comments about her physical appearance, such as calling her "sexy." The actor also claimed that he fat-shamed her by asking her personal trainer how much she weighed while preparing for a scene where Baldoni had to lift her because he had severe back problems.
She also blamed the director for the criticism she received during the press tour for It Ends With Us. Many fans believed she was being tone-deaf and insensitive in the way that she promoted a movie about domestic violence. Instead of taking responsibility and apologizing, she said Baldoni was running a smear campaign against her.
Baldoni and his legal team refuted the claims, stating that Lively embellished the events in order to take control of the project and portray him in a negative light. They maintained that her complaints about conditions on the set of It Ends With Us were merely “minor grievances” that got blown way out of proportion and certainly don't qualify as sexual harassment. They added that Baldoni was entitled to defend himself against her lies.
In a decision made on Thursday, April 2, 2026, Judge Lewis Liman threw out 10 of the 13 claims, including those alleging harassment, defamation, and conspiracy. However, three of her claims against the Ends With Us director will move forward to trial: retaliation, breach of contract, and aiding and abetting retaliation.
Liman determined that Lively was not eligible to pursue a federal sexual harassment lawsuit against Baldoni because she worked as an independent contractor. The judge also found that California law did not apply to her case, since took place in New Jersey.
Judge Liman, however, did rule in Lively's favor when she said that Baldoni enlisted numerous publicists to retaliate against her by planting unflattering articles about her online and allegedly escalating the situation. He concluded that two of the retaliation claims should be decided by a jury.
The case is currently scheduled to go to trial on May 18, 2026. Baldoni and Lively previously met with a magistrate judge for mediation on February 11, 2026, but the session ended without a resolution. The dispute has drawn in several . Despite the pop star's efforts to distance herself from the situation, she was still dragged into the messy lawsuit after a text to Lively revealed that Swift called Baldoni a "b***h."
