Warning: Contains spoilers for Daredevil: Born Again season 2, episode 3!Muse's story is continuing in season 2, but the MCU show is laying the groundwork for the villain to be completely revamped. Season 1 introduced Muse as a violent vigilante and street artist, who was ultimately revealed to be Bastian Cooper, one of Heather Glenn's clients. And when Muse died in , it was assumed this is where his story ended.
That was disappointing, as the didn't fully live up to his comic counterpart. Muse wasn't quite as menacing as one would've hoped in season 1, and the MCU even . Luckily, Daredevil: Born Again season 2 has kept Muse around for its early episodes through Heather's story. And it's the latest development that hints Muse's presence is far from over.
Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Is Teasing Heather Becoming Muse
For the first two episodes, Muse is only seen as a . He's shown standing near her and looking creepily at her. When it happens, she becomes frozen in fear, clearly traumatized by her near-death experience at Cooper's hand. It'd be easy to think Heather would want to separate herself from memories of Muse and overcome one of the darkest moments of her life.
However, in , it is revealed that Heather kept Muse's mask. She's had it hidden in her apartment after the incident, and it's implied that she even wants to hang it on the wall. Rather than holding onto the mask as a bit of memorabilia for how she overcame a near-death experience, this could be a step toward Heather wearing it herself and becoming a new version of Muse.
There's been a clear focus on Heather's deteriorating mental state in season 2 and the role Muse's death has played in it. She's not doing well, with her even becoming corrupted by Fisk's political agenda. Additionally, she's not seeking any help as she struggles to process what's happened to her previously.
It would make some sense then for Heather to become Muse later in Born Again season 2. She already has part of the costume and is haunted by him. Heather could become the thing she fears the most if she doesn't find a way to cope with her past. And should she learn Matt is Daredevil, that could send her spiraling and lead to such a character twist.
Does Heather Become Muse In Marvel Comics?
The idea of Heather becoming a female version of Muse would be a classic example of the MCU melding different comic stories and characters together. The comic version of Matt Murdock's ex-girlfriend never becomes a supervillain, much less takes on Muse's mantle.
However, there is a precedent for a female Muse. After the original, unnamed man who was Muse in the comics died, his soul went to Hell. This led him to eventually encounter a fellow artist, Morgan Whittier, who then fell under Muse's influence. She began killing people and wearing a similar all-white costume with blood streaks under the eyes.
Rather than bring in supernatural elements like Muse being in Hell and introducing an entirely new character through Morgan, Born Again season 2 could give this Lady Muse story to Heather. It's a simpler way to add a fresh version of Muse to the show and deliver a twist that can surprise casual and hardcore fans alike.
Notably, the was introduced just shortly before Born Again season 1 came out. Doing a female Muse storyline in season 2 would show the synergy between the comics and MCU and how quickly new ideas can be incorporated into the franchise.
How Heather Becoming Muse Will Change Daredevil: Born Again
Should Heather suit up as Muse later in Daredevil: Born Again, whether in season 2 or possibly even season 3, it will dramatically evolve the story. For her personally, it will turn her into a proper villain terrorizing New York but also potentially someone whom Daredevil will want to help save.

As for the Devil of Hell's Kitchen, the return of Muse in any form will be a shock to his system. Realizing that it is his ex-girlfriend under the mask will really shake him up. And if the MCU gives Heather some of Muse's comic superpowers, her being able to hide from his senses will present a new challenge for Matt.
Now we'll just have to wait and see if Heather becomes Muse in Daredevil: Born Again or if this story goes in another direction.
